Provincial Museum of Natural Sciences

Today the Provincial Museum of Natural Sciences “Florentino Ameghino” has its Headquarters in the Educational Complex Sarmiento, located between the streets First Board and First of May.

In its rooms thousands of pieces are exhibited, from minerals and rocks to diverse kingdoms (fungi, plants and animals). Among these stand out the incorporations of high patrimonial value as corresponding to natural sciences of the Jesuit Heritage (entered in 1974).

Also botanical laboratories, Invertebrate Zoology and Vertebrate Zoology, have deposits with collections for scientific studies (for example, the ichthyological collection of the National Institute of Limnology entered in 2011).

For its part, the Library and Documentation Center “Joaquin Frenguelli” contains more than 100,000 periodicals and 3000 books; Being within the provincial territory one of the most important newspaper archives because the material that it owns comes from national and international institutions, in several languages ​​like French, Portuguese, German and English, among others.

Both the various collections it contains and a large library make the Ameghino regularly consulted by scientists, researchers, teachers, university students, health professionals, and the general public.
